Ginger "chocolate" (GF, vegan)
Germany is doing pretty good compared to other countries at the moment, but the area we live in is one of the poorer areas, with pretty high percentages of unemployment.
It's a beautiful area with a big forest (it is Germany after all...), but how shall I say it without sounding like a snob? People don't have much to do around here.
One can really see and feel how the boredom slowly made people apathetic here and not gave them the motivation to seek better life, as it should have.
I have no idea how we got here. I mean, yes, I know how we got here, I wasn't sleeping through it, but it was like a coincidence. We moved to Germany and had to pick an area, so we picked this one without thinking too much (obviously), found a nice flat (which is a wonder in Germany - not the nice part, just to find A flat) and just went for it. And now we are stuck.
The collection of people in our building is truly amazing.
We live in a building with 6 flats. There are exactly 2 people in this building who actually work and my husband is one of them. All the others, well, I have no idea what they do.
We have neighbors who keep two poor rabbits in the smallest cage you have ever seen, another family who has another room attached to their house, but it's not a part of the flat and they let their four year old sleep there at night (could you imagine your little child not sleeping*actually* in the house?) and another neighbor who fell asleep in the stairway because he was so drunk.
I can't wait to move to a big city, to meet people who have more to their lives than drinking and sitting around. I can't wait to live in a place where one feels like it's 2014 and not the 80's, where there is more than one playground where all the parents sit around and smoke, where there is at least one more person other than me who is a foreigner and can speak English, where I can choose a kindergarten and a doctor, because there is more than one.
I can't wait for my kid to see and experience that there is more to life than what's here. In eyes of a little boy - what one sees is what exists and I am so afraid that his reality will be that that's that, that's life, that's how things are and will be and should be.
One thing is for sure. Food makes life a whole lot easier. And by food I mean chocolate.
50g coconut oil
50g almond butter
2tbsp cocoa powder
20-25g agave syrup, depends how bitter you want your chocolate
3/4tsp ginger powder*
*you can infuse the chocolate in different flavors: vanilla, chili, cinnamon, lemon zest or wherever else your imagination takes you.
Release from the silicone mold and keep in a closed container in the freezer.
The catch with this "chocolate" is that it needs to be kept cool, but it's worth it :)
